CDAA Basic Cave Course (OC / CCR) 

Your first adventure towards Cave Diving starts here with the Basic Cave Course where you will be taught how to access CDAA Sites as well as the dive skills required in the sport. Handling zero visibility, lost mask and air sharing are just some of the skills that will be taught in this course. A sinkhole is defined as a body of fresh water which can have large passages (no restrictions too small for two divers to swim adjacent to each other) and which exceeds 20 metres in depth.

Pre Course - Reading manuals 

Day 1 - Theory, Gear Configuration

Day 2 - Theory, reel workshop, 1 Controlled Water Dive

Day 3 - Theory, 2 x Controlled Water Dives

Day 4 - 1 x Skills Assessment Dive + 1 x Site Dive

Day 5 - 2 x Site Dives

Water skills include a focus on tec style finning techniques (frog / tec flutter / back / helicopter), hand, light and tactile communications, maintaining trim and buoyancy whist performing all skills including air sharing, no mask / black out mask following a line, laying and retrieving line.

Equipment:

Two cylinders, volume appropriate for planned dive, and student gas consumption 

Two independent first and second stage regulators (one to have a 2 meter hose) each with a submersible pressure gauge 

Buoyancy compensator device (BCD) with power inflator appropriate for side mount or back mount configuration 

Or 1 x CCR with any modifications to be approved by the manufacturer (RESA Standards) and 1 bailout cylinder (2nd stage must have a 2 meter hose)

Mask, spare mask, cutting device and tec fins 

Exposure suit adequate for diving environment 1 primary light + 2 back ups

Dive computer and an additional depth and timing device; backup computer recommended 

100 meter (min) primary reel 

1 personal marker

Slate and or wet notes (plus pencil)

Surface Marker Bouy (with 25 lb lift) and reel of sufficient length (depth + 50%)

Options:

Schedule can be tailored to suit a group

Local shore dives included

Site dives are done in the dams around Collie (camping / accommodation fees apply)

Some sites are 4WD only (logistics discussed pre-course - self drive)

Air fills and or blended fills are at the students expense

May be completed on OC or CCR (call for further info)
